The IMF on Friday put forward a $50 billion plan to end the Covid-19 pandemic, with a target of vaccinating at least 40 percent of the world’s population by the end of 2021.
Looking forward to a achieve a long-term sustainable global economic recovery, then the plan aims to have at vaccinate least 60 percent of the world’s population by the end of 2022.
The authors of the report points out that it is now recognized that there will be no real end to the economic crisis without the end to the health crisis.
To achieve that, the IMF stressed the need for additional subsidies for the international Covid Vaccine scheme — which was set up to prevent rich countries from hoarding vaccine, but it is proving ineffective so far way.
Those subsidies would come out from donations of surplus doses of vaccine and ensuring the free and fair cross-border flow of raw materials and vaccine.
